Can anyone resolve this debate I have having with some friends. Is Pernod a sprit or a liqueur?

| All I know about Pernod is that it's basically a wormwood-free absinthe. As far as i know absinthe is composed mostly of vodka so draw your conclusions thusly. |

Pernod is a liqueur. Spirits derive their taste through the distillation, liqueurs derived their flavor afterwards. IE. Cherry schnapps is a liqueur, the cherry flavor is added laterin the process. Where as Kirsch distills cherries from the get-go.
