Be straight with your customers and tell them that them that you’ve had enough to drink & that you have to cash the shots that they’re buying you

If you can distract the customer where he can't see what you are pouring in the shot glass, you can put just a small splash of coke in a shot glass and fill it up with water, it doesn't fizz and it turns the color of tequila or light colored whiskey. Kinda sneaky but it won't get you hammered.

Take the shot and hold it in your mouth then act like you are chasing it with a beer and spit it back in the bottle!!

keep a bottle of apple juice handy, maybe pour it into a tequila bottle or even water in a tequila white bottle and shot your self to death with either juice or water, work something out where you see the proceeds of that with the bar owner or manager.

I'd say being honest would be the first choice, most people will understand, and it builds a tenders reputation as being an honest person, and less likely to cheat you on drinks. (We’ve had problems with bars watering drinks down before.)
On a second note, I do agree with the beer bottle chaser method if you have an intoxicated patron being a bother or someone that keeps interfering with your service to other customers until you take a shot.

the bar i work at suggests the splash of coke thing but i find that there is no way i could pull one over seeing as my sode gun is right infront of the customers would be totally obviouse
and the bottle with something else in it is really risky for the bar because if the liqour board ever came in and saw that the bar could be shut down seein as there is no proof that your not serving that to customers
what i usually do seeing as our bar has zero tolerance for the staff drinking is tell the customer the truth i would like to take it but i cant but what i can do is seeing as i am off soon i could make the shot and put it in the fridge and drink them when im done with ya.... most of the time they go for it and theyre gone or forgotten by the time im finished work and i have a ncie line up of shots waiting for me when im done
hells ya i love it |

Honesty is really the best policy. Just tell 'em straight.
