Sup everyone? I'm interested in learning how to free pour so i can mix drinks faster at my home. I bought a free pourer for .25 cents at a local ABC and would like to know how to count correctly. I can't seem to pour consistantly at all. have any tips?

I just started bartending about 4 months ago, but i learned by counting while I used the pourers that stopped automatically. That way I was able to know how long with the free pourers. I think most people use a 3 count (I could be completely wrong though). I use a 4 count b/c it works for me.
If you only have free pourers at home, line up your shot glasses & use an empty bottle filled with water and count as you pour. You'll get the hang of it!! Singing

I've always really sucked at free pouring. For some strange reason I normally just use shot glasses as sort've measurements. Sometimes I "pretend" to be all good and free pour when I have people over. The advice that KellyL10 gave is pretty good. I think I might actually try that as soon as I actually have some relatively decent time on my hands.

Free pouring accuracy depends on the gauge of the pourer. There are different gauges for different "counts".
Some are 4 count others may be 5.

There is a test pour kit called Exacto-Pour.Check out this link for more info:

I have always free poured, using a 3 count. Get an empty bottle fill it with water, and a jigger, and a glass, Practice pouring in the glass counting and then pour it into the jigger, or shot glass to measure. With practice you will figure out how to pour accurately in no time.

I was shown this method about 4 years ago when I first started bartending and even though I rarely measure can still pour an accurate shot using this method.

I have always free poured, using a 4 or 5 count.

I always use a 4 count or say 1-1000,2-1000,3-1000,4-1000,5 and that usually accurate

Not all pour spouts pour at the same rate so this will affect your "count" for accurate pours. But I have found it easiest to use a 5 count for 1-1/4oz shot, this makes it much easier to measure other amounts like 1/4oz or 1/2oz. Using the 5 count, every 1/4oz is one count. Cool
