A friend and I are designing a drinks database program (open source, built in php) that is based on the phpBB architecture. Would anybody be interested in this software? Like downloading a trial version and testing it on their server, or convincing drinknation to demo it?

The program is going to be very robust, but would function nearly exactly like drinknation (except it would look exactly like phpBB and would be theme-able, customizeable, and modular). You could view it as your own drinks community. The only benefit above drinknation is no advertising and open source so you could do what you want with it.

Anybody interested in this?

It sounds quite interesting. I'd definitely take a look at it and what not. I was thinking of doing something like that myself but I don't have the spare time at this point to do stuff like that.

Well, the project is nearing a beta version stage. Would anybody be interested in downloading a beta version (and running it on their own server--which you can get for free for your home computer), or would you like to just go to a site to demo it?

Where exactly are you getting your drink recipes from?

Hey all. Thanks for the replies.

Our project was to design an open source application that would allow people to start up their own "Cocktail Communities" if you will (much like phpBB creates general internet communities). We are interested in populating the database with a test set of ingredients and recipes. However, copyright issues will most likely be a problem in that case, so it is of secondary concern currently. When we decide to go live with a demo of the application, we will most likely allow users free reign over ingredients/recipes in the database, so we can get a good test set of data going.

This may also be a good time to note that we will include the ability to cite the source of a recipe, which may alleviate some copyright responsibility (however, I fear it may create even more).

This site is great. I'll definitely use it once it's lauched. Are you planning on making this a free download software?

Hope you like it. Thanks.
