The very first time I was ever too loaded (or, er, the ONLY time I was ever too loaded) some winnar forced soda crackers down my throat insisting they would soak up the alcohol. Is this a pile? Or is it a tested and true method of stopping the spins/puke, etc? Any other drunkeness cures? Hangover cures?

Everything I have heard says that eating AFTER drinking is bunk as far as controlling the hangover or drunkenness.

Alcohol is not digested, it is absorbed through the stomach wall or other mucous membranes. It is absorbed so fast that eating after drinking will do little to no good at all.

However, it is a good idea to eat before drinking. Food present in the stomach BEFORE drinking will absorb some alcohol when it is consumed. Note though that because of other liquid in the stomach that very little alcohol is actually absorbed. Food will also help ease some stomaches.

Hangovers are caused by 1 or a combination of the following:
1. To much alcohol ingested - Duh, mild to severe alcohol poisoning.
2. Sugar overdose (too many of tose fruity sugary drinks)
3. Dehydration - most obvious effect of drink too much alcohol.

Try the following next time you go drinking...
1. Do not drink over your limit. For the average person (130-145 lbs), 2-4 drinks in an hour is the limit.
2. Stay away from too many sugary, sweet drinks (Schnapps = German for sugar). If you like the sweet drinks, but tend to drink too many due to their usual low proof - try adding a shot of Vodka to each drink to raise the proof (just remember to drink half as many).
3. Eat before you go drinking.
4. Back each drink with a glass of water. Before going to bed, drink another large glass of water.
5. Stay away from aspirin - it thins the blood.

Good to know! Thanks, Swizzlestick! Someone also told me the other day that B vitamins are good to take I think the day after...not that I just have B vitamins sitting in my pocket but maybe I'll get some for special occasions.

Vitamin B or any multi vitamin can't hurt both before and after your binge. It will help the effects of dehydration.

If you want to prevent a hangover after a night of drinking waaaaay too much, and you're not nauseated, try taking three or four vitamin c tablets with about two glasses of water. the vitamin c will make you pee a lot faster, and it will clean your liver and kidneys out quicker. Its tried and tested- and it works!

In my younger day, we used to take Vitamin B12 before going out for a night of partying, if you don't have time before, take when you come home. For whatever reason, sure does help the morning after.

Remeber, a full stomach only prolongs how fast the alcohol enters your bloodstream. On an empty stomach there is nothing to keep the alcohol from being absorbed into the stomach wall. Food simply absorbs the alcohol until the the food is further broken down (usually in the intestines). The alcohol absorbed into the food will eventually be absorbed into your blood stream. Eating just keeps it from happening all at once.

I've never had a hangover, despite being very drunk on some occasions. I have been told that perhaps the reason for my lack of hangover is because after drinking I wake up after a bit of sleep and feel really thirsty, so I go and drink lots of water. I have also ended up on a bread binge before. I think the trick is really having food in your stomach and keeping hydrated.

I agree with Swizzle stick. The full stomache is one of the best preventions in getting a hangover. The high sugar content in the fruity drinks also aides in creating the hangover. But also remember that a drink does not equal a drink: 1 oz 100 proof alcohol = 12 oz beer = 5 oz wine. A long Island Iced Tea euals multiple drinks (5 liquours). If you drink a bottle of beer and I drink a mixed drink (high-ball), unless the bartender measures (uses a shot glass), my alcohol level will normally be higher than yours. I don't know of too many bartenders that don't free-pour, or over-pour the shot glass (if used). I also understand that carbonated mixers help speed the absorborbtion into the blood stream. Most people assume that the alcohol is absorbed in the stomache, the truth is once in your mouth the absorbtion starts there. The alcohol causes your blood to thin. Asprin does the same thing: not good. The hang over is actually the blood starting to thicken up and you feel it in your head most. But if you really think about it, your whole body aches. Drink lots of water while drinking and when you get home to help minimize the effects of the alcohol dehydration.

Vitamin B12 allows your blood to carry more oxygen, thus helping dissipate your BAC quicker.
I have also seen studies that attempted to show that charcoal will also help absorb any excess alcohol in your stomach. Im not suggesting to go eat a bunch of charcoal, but many people recommend burnt toast to help cure a hangover in the morning.

Forget the specific vitamins, get 'em all in one shot with Centrum.

Also, if you wake up with a hangover, then it's probly because you're dehydrated. Forget Gatorade, it's too salty/sugary. If you can, get a bottle of Pedialyte on your next trip to the pharmacy. There's a reason little kids drink it when they're dehydrated.
