Budweiser just doesn't do it for me, I'll drink it but i'm not a big fan. I was wondering if there is a beer that i can get at the grocery store or gas stationthat has a pleasant taste (flavor). One time I had a good tasting beer , it wasn’t to harsh, I think it was Smirnoff Ice but am not sure. Not just looking for something with a strong flavor, i would settle for something that is just not as harsh as budweiser. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions...

coronas are good, can be a bit expensive if ur budget is low but if not, enjoy. best served chilled with a lime in the throat of the bottle's neck.

You should look into microbrews. Stuff like budweiser can be harsh simply because they are mass-production style drafts. You won't find microbrews at a gas station though.

hit up your local grocery store, most have a bit of a selection. try a few darker beers, some take a few to get used to and they usually cost a bit more so in the end you wish you hadn't cause you will never want to go back :-P

try a couple of these

Honey brown -easy to find
Newcastle Brown Ale -easy to find
Michelob Amber bock -easy to find in the winter
Delirium Nocturnum -look a little harder
hoegaarden -good luck finding this one, but man is it worth finding.

if your trying to stick to your lighter draft beers then keep an i out for DAB beer... its a low carb beer that tastes similar to Budweiser yet a little smoother and with a bit more alcohol and we all know that’s key.

Yeah, dark beers are great. Good for ya too... almost as good as a glass of red wine, according to recent studies.

You know, I want to be the guy that gets to study booze, and get money from the government from doing it. Crazy

You may already know that Bud is beechwood aged. What you may not know is what a disgusting pile of crap aged beechwood becomes when subjected to a beer vat. My bud (pun intended) worked at a brewery and loves beer even more than me (incredible but true) and he will not drink a Bud under any circumstances since he witnessed the "Beechwood aging".

I'm Canadian so I'm really partial to canuck beers but I have had a couple decent off-the-rack American beers (which is what you've asked about I believe). Miller Genuine Draft is as smooth a brew as you'll find in a corner store and regionally, Pabst Blue Ribbon is pretty good. If your going to dip into dark beers check out any of the offerings of Unibroue. One that is available in the USA is Maudite which besides having the coolest label ever to grace a bottle is also one of the finest beers ever brewed (and I'm certainly qualified to make that assesment!). Another really decent dark beer is Issenbeck or Holstien Spring Bock, both from Germany. Hope this helps. Cool

I second the Maudite. They bring that to the Beer Fest where I live every year and it's great.

Good to hear you've experienced Maudite. Kind of a clove like taste me thinks. If you liked that you might also like "La fin du la monde" (The end of the world), "Tres Pistoles" (Three pistols), or "Quel que chose" (A cherry beer similar to the belgian Kreik beer). These beers are all produced by Unibroue out of Quebec. They also make several other interesting beers. I knbow that they make a sampler pack with two of each of the more popular beers in it but I'm not certain it is available in the USA. I live in British Columbia and it is readily available here

Call me funky but I like mexican piss(coronas). With or without a lime doesn't bother me either way. The dark beers or non-watery beers seem to be way too thick for my taste. Just my small 2 cents.

Mexico does indeed make some fine brews. My personal favorite is Negro Modello (a dark beer, suprise, suprise!), followed by Bohemia, Dos Equis XX, Pacifico and even Corona. I find Sol fairly watery and Tecate just plain bad. If you like Mexican beers you might try Marca Bavaria from Brazil. A taste similar to Corona but more pronounced. As a side note, Molson's (now partnered with Coors) bought out Marca Bavaria about two years ago but thankfully didn't change anything other than marketing.

I don't suppose you know anything about Goldschläger? We're building up our ingredient glossary, and I can't find any history on it... (post to this thread: http://www.drinknation.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=296

Hey Earlystatic, if your not a big beer fan, but like the sweet stuff like the Smirnoff drinks, you should try Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss. It's my favorite beer during the summer (b/c it's only available April-September)! My boss actually put it on tap for me I love it so much! Grin
You can also mix 1/2 Berry Weiss & 1/2 Honey Weiss to make a "Honey Bear" for a less sweeter version.

Although I'm nowhere near being a connoisseur like Boozer Wink , hope my rambling was helpful!!
