Drink of the Week for Jul 9th, 2005: Spark In The Night

What we had to say

Some of you, our amiable Drink of the Week readers, may have noticed that we were unavailble last night to provide fresh beverage instructions to the thirsty denizens of this particular section of our little galaxy. It turns out that there was a "network outage" at the "central router" in the "data center" in "Texas". Now, while we consider at least one of those four things to be a figment of the imagination, the fact remains that we were unhappy. Drink of the Week could not be sent! So we phoned them up to voice our complaints, but you know how those tech support guys are. We said something like "Hey! Our most excellent server is down. What's going on?", and the guy was like "We think it's a PFC memory exhaustion problem related to multicast", and then one of our intern's heads exploded. Poor guy. He was in marketing, and even overhearing a snippet of complex technical jargon was enough to cause massive carotid arterial overload. So now we had no server, and we were down one intern. We grabbed our head marketer and put him on the phone with a counter-attack of "Look, our pre-eminent future-proof platform needs one hundred percent synergestic delivery streams." We're pretty sure we killed their whole call center, because the phone lines went dead and never came back. On the plus side, the server eventually came back online by itself, so we could finally get this drink out to you.

Also, we apologize if you were a marketer or a tech support guy and you read the above sentences. If your head exploded, there's not much we can do for you except maybe borrow your playstation, since you won't need it anymore.
