Drink of the Week for Nov 6th, 2005: Venice Beach

What we had to say

It's Christmas! Well, if you're in retail, it's Christmas. For these poor souls, Christmas is an arms race that begins the moment the last piece of candy is given out on Halloween. Shiny round things must go up in the display windows. Tinsel and reindeer should surround every consumer item, and the mannequins must have Santa hats. You can't let the competition establish a Santa hat gap!

It's reached the point now where it wouldn't be surprising if Wal-mart sued Mother Nature at 12:01 on November 1st on the grounds that negligence in producing snow hurts Christmas sales. We wouldn't mind all the hubbub if it didn't start so darn early. All the shiny things and loud noises hurt after a late night of Halloween festivities. And seriously, it's still two months away. Unless you're ordering gifts from Bhutan via carrier pigeon, or possibly the United States Postal Service, then there's still plenty of time to figure out ideas. We don't have any for you, because we ordered all our gift ideas from Bhutan last year and they aren't here yet. We do have a drink recipe though. Oh, and a tip. It might be a good idea to stock up on entertaining supplies early if you're planning on having guests, as liquor prices tend to go up a fair bit during the runup to the 'ol eggnog day.
