Bob Marley Drink Recipe

No picture of this cocktail available.

This is a flaming drink. Please read our notes about flaming drinks and be careful.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Creme de Menthe, green
  • 1/2 oz. Liqueur, banana
  • 1/2 oz. Rum, overproof/151 proof
  • 1 oz. Grenadine

Mixing Instructions

The true Bob Marley is grenadine at the bottom, creme de menthe in the middle, and 151 plus creme de bananna, so it makes the red, green and yellow of the Jamaican flag. Light it on fire, stick a straw down to the bottom and finish it!

had a few of these on our holday in Jamaica this year and all I can say is wow! Bartenders were experts at making these in minutes. Now we're off to try and make our own!!!

Had this in couples Jamaica, i'm Irish and used to hardcore drinks, but this one knocked my lights out after three of them.

There is no red in the jamaican flag, but red is a colour which is associated with jamaica due to bob marley, as he claimed it represented the blood of the people (all the other colours are supposed 2 represent different stuff but i cant remember what).
there are loads of variations of this drink, but ive seen it where you do grenadine 1st, then rly slowly banana liqueur and then rly slowly creme de menthe... Takes a lot of precision... Took 1 bartender 15 minutes 2 make me 1 once...

Just came back from Jamaica on spring break. All the bartenders poured the grenadine first normal, then the creme de menthe slowly using the side of the shot glass. then, they took a spoon and poured the 151/overproof/banana slowly on the spoon, so it would trickle lightly on top of the layers.

The colors don't represent the Jamaican flag... they represent the rastafarian colors.

I had one of these when I was down in Ecuador... except it was made with Puro (a liquor made from sugar cane.. about the same as 151 proof). That is one hard core shot! Tons of fun to do though!!

How do you separate the the colors in the drink? When I tied it the color was like muddy water but it did taste good.
