In the US a Snakebite is serves Half Cider (Usually Widers) on the bottom and Half Guinness on the Top.

Proper Snakebite was originally a drink in the early 80's you would have at home before going out to get you off your tits and make you hyper BUT !!, the stuff people drink today is not the original recipe, this is... half a pint of STRONG cider (8%+ is good) then half a pint of STRONG lager beer (again 8%+) then add the venom (a shot of vodka) this is why it's called 'snakebite', to kill the bitter taste of alcohol add a large splash of blackcurrant juice, drink just the one pint to start with unless you are feeling brave, works best when thirsty !! .

The bartenders are also not allowed to mix different labels because of contract stuff or some other. But if you make friends with them, they may do it anyway.

It is not illegal to serve Snakebite in British pubs! That's an urban myth. Many pubs will refuse to serve it as whoever is drinking it is most likely a. Underage and b. Likely to vomit all over the carpet...
