Cognac

Cocktail Ingredient Glossary » Cognac
Glossary:

Cognac is a type of brandy named for the town of Cognac in France. Similar to how bourbon must be produced in Kentucky, or Tequila in Mexico, Cognac must be produced in a certain region in France to be considered Cognac.

Cognac undergoes a special distillation process, being distilled twice in copper pots, and is then sealed in French oak barrels for two years.
