Sloe Gin

Glossary:

Sloe gin is a type of gin that has been flavoured with sloe berries, otherwise known as blackthorn berries.

The traditional method of creating sloe gin was to infuse gin with the flavour of the sloe berries. Each berry has its skin pricked before adding to the container along with sugar to assist in the extraction of the berry essence. After curing for several months, the gin will have turned red in color.

Commercial sloe gins are generally made starting with neutral grain spirits instead of gin, and then adding berry and gin flavours.
