Sugar Syrup

Glossary:

Sugar syrup, also called bar syrup or simple syrup, is a mixture of sugar and water kept on hand for easy addition of sweetness to a cocktail.

The advantage to syrup over crystallized sugar is that bartenders do not need to take the time to stir a cocktail until the sugar is dissolved. It is also easier to measure out as a liquid than try to mess with grams or tablespoons when you're busy making drinks.
