mix equal parts tequila & kahlua (we never used triple sec) into a brandy snifter heat until it starts to burn with the snifter set down on a table quickly put a straw down to the bottom, in the middle of the snifter. Suck ALL the liquid out, before straw catches fire! Fire will go out when the liquid is all sucked out. If you loose your nerve and pull away before it's gone... you get fire in your MOUTH!

Do you serve it at room temperature or chilled? The flaming of it makes me guess warm, but with all those sugary liquers it might be easier to drink cold.

Very popular in Ojinaga Chihuahua Mexico at the Millennium Night club. But Bacardi 151 is whats added for the ignition of the flame

Had this drink in a resort in Panama. Was good and I enjoyed it. It was served on a shot glass and I only had one. When it was lit on fire, it was a sophisticated drink presentation.

Place in a shot glass, Kahlua and Tequila alone. Put the tequila slowly on top to catch on fire. Extinguish the fire placing something on top, and drink all at one. Make sure to the drink all over your mouth to get the full intense flavor of the shot. Very enjoyable! Right now I am drinking it on the rocks. It's not as tasty, but it would be good to have a good time with the right accompany.

Ive participated in " La Cucaracha " in Palenque at La Canadesis. There were no straws. Two waiters came to our table. One prepared the drink and the second explained that he would be wiping my chin after I drank La Cucaracha. Then the first lite the drink , I drank the flaming La Cucaracha and the second wiped my chin with a damp towel to ensure I did not burn my lips or chin. As a kid I used to drink Flaming Arrows with Drambue so I knew it was a drink that you do not stop half way through. Viva Pelenqe! Viva Chiapas!

A fond Tijuana memory for me. If you suck the drink down before you burn the straw, you win!

You don't need 151 to light it on fire - just float the tequila on top and it will light just fine.
