Goldschläger

Glossary:

Goldschläger is a cinnamon schnapps now made in Italy, but originating from Switzerland. The liqueur is clear and has flakes of 23 karat gold leaf suspended in it. The amount of gold has been reported to be less than 0.1 grams per 750 mL bottle.

Goldschläger is German for "gold beater", a reference to the profession of gold leaf manufacturers, who beat gold metal into thin sheets.

Gold is an inert substance and is not harmful when ingested. Despite this, many rumors and urban legends persist surrounding the consumption of Goldschläger.
