How to Make It

  1. Add gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup to a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a collins glass with fresh ice.
  3. Top with club soda.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

    A Tom Collins is stirred, not shaken unless you want to bruise the gin and make it bitter. In a Collins glass add the powdered sugar, fill with ice, 1 oz. lemon juice/sour mix, 2 oz. Gin, using barspoon stir, top with club soda, stir again briefly. Garnish with cherry and orange twist.

    Step 2 (fill with soda) should perhaps be moved to the part after straining into the glass. Otherwise, I agree that this recipe would be light, crisp and refreshing.
